We have compiled a detailed overview of food prices in Phu Quoc Island in 2021. Cafes, restaurants, shops, fruits, seafood, night market. Find out how much it costs to eat in a popular resort in Vietnam. Our review and advice.

We are big lovers of Vietnam and its cuisine. Arriving on Phu Quoc Island, we hoped to get a new portion of gastronomic pleasure. But it was not there! In the field of catering, the resort let us down and upset us greatly: with prices, taste, portions. We tell you about our experience, list prices, give advice and warnings.

In Fukuoka, we lived both in Duong Dong and in the tourist area - on the street along Long Beach. In search of inexpensive and tasty food, we went around almost all the establishments, so we studied the prices thoroughly. We present them for the tourist street. About prices in Duong Dong - briefly at the end of the article.

Exchange rate: 10,000 Vietnamese dong (VND) ≈ 32 RUB.

Prices for food in cafes and restaurants in Fukuoka - 2021

Street cafes for locals. In such modest cafes with signs in Vietnamese and filthy plastic chairs, food prices are the lowest: rice with any meat from 25 thousand dong, soups from 30 thousand, young coconut - 25 thousand dong. Usually they don't even have a menu. Learn the main dishes of Vietnamese cuisine >>

Seafood cafe. They can be recognized by their aquariums with live marine reptiles. Metal or plastic tables, exposed outside or under a canopy. In Mui Ne they are known as Bo Ke. For us, this is the most unpleasant type of establishment. We honestly tried to get into - you have to eat seafood! However, it did not work out: the portions are brought as for a kitten, everything is tasteless, but it is not cheap. Once they brought a tiny undercooked squid for 40 thousand dongs, and we decided not to experiment anymore.

The main contingent is Vietnamese who order beer and snacks. Russians order seafood, but we recommend eating it in normal restaurants.

Cafe for tourists. They look much more decent than street ones: wooden tables and chairs, there is a menu in English, Russian and Chinese. There is more comfort, but prices are also higher: squid with rice 60-85 thousand, noodles with vegetables - 50 thousand, fried noodles with meat - 65-80 thousand, bun cha (noodles with grilled cutlets) - 50 thousand. Coffee costs 15-25 thousand dongs, smoothies, shakes and juices - from 25 thousand.

Restaurants. Prices depend on the level of the establishment. In chic (for example, Xinchao) seafood costs an average of 200-350 thousand dong. Simpler restaurants (like Tam) offer seafood for $ 100,000. There are many mid-level establishments where dishes cost 150-200 thousand.

At Tam restaurant, we had a New Year's dinner: eel, squid in tamarind sauce, fried rice with garlic, two coffees and shiitaki mushrooms cost 400 thousand. Very tasty and inexpensive! Find out about New Year's holidays in Vietnam >>

Fukuoka Night Market Food Prices

After 6:00 pm, hungry tourists flock to the night market for fresh seafood. Prices in Europeanized seafood restaurants the market seemed to us very overpriced. Judge for yourself:

  • hot pot - 400 thousand dongs;
  • fried rice with seafood - 110 thousand dong;
  • fried noodles with seafood - 120 thousand dong;
  • shrimp (including tiger) - 170 thousand;
  • squids - 120-150 thousand.

And this is in a place where, according to the guides, you can eat inexpensive seafood! For comparison, in a cafe near our resort, we bought squid in coconut milk with rice for 60 thousand dong.

Here is a photo of the menu of one of the restaurants on the market:

What else can you eat in the market? Try fried ice cream, a Thai specialty. It costs 30 thousand, very tasty. Queues line up for the ice cream makers, because making a dessert is a performance.

There is a lot of street food: Vietnamese hot dogs, quail eggs with mussels or sea urchin, fried spring rolls, omelettes with vegetables - all at 30 thousand dong per 1 piece. Coconut desserts are also sold.

How much does fruit cost?

Most of the fruit shops are on one of the streets leading to the night market. But there is also a street along Long Beach.

Fruit prices in Fukuoka are slightly higher than in other places (per kg):

  • rambutans - 45 thousand;

Prices in stores

There are no supermarkets we are used to in Fukuoka yet. There are minimarkets. There are several of them along the tourist street: A1, C-Mart, "rural" minimarkets. Another large by local standards Duong Dong in Duong Dong, where mainly imported products, cosmetics, clothing, household goods - almost a full-fledged supermarket!

What surprised and saddened us

Surprised, outraged and upset some things in Fukuoka - we did not expect such a blow in the stomach from the excellent Vietnamese cuisine.

Coffee - this is what we are returning to Vietnam for. It's tense with him in the tourist area. Whichever coffee shop or cafe we enter, the coffee is disgusting. Overcooked or too diluted. Locals frankly feel sorry for him and put too little. Nice coffee was found at Yen Ha cafe. Read more about the legendary Vietnamese coffee >>

Seafood are cooked tasteless and the portions are small.

Food prices in Fukuoka higher than in other resorts in Vietnam. Anyway, go find an inexpensive local cafe in the tourist zone!

Fruit prices do not depend on the tourism of the place, but on the seller.

Unpleasant: there was a case when for 2 bananas eaten we were charged 20 thousand dongs. And we have already forgotten that this is sometimes bred - we are used to trusting. By the way, in Tai and Mui Ne they bring a plate of fruit for free.

Lack of full-fledged supermarkets make life difficult (with longstee).

Portions often small - nowhere in Vietnam has this been seen. Well, or we came across such cafes.
