Must-haves to try in St. Petersburg

First of all - delicious smelt fish and wonderful St. Petersburg pastries - donuts and pies, pastries in coffee shops.

Smelt Is a lacustrine smelt, which begins to spawn in April, for which it embarks on a journey along rivers. They even erected a monument to this small fish in Kronstadt; thanks to her, many people managed to survive the terrible blockade in Leningrad. Every year in May in St. Petersburg there is a holiday in honor of fish, when smelt is fried on the grills, and the aroma of fresh cucumbers fills the air - this is how this amazing fish smells.

You can try smelt in restaurants - starting from the inexpensive apartment "Kvartira", where you can enjoy fried smelt for 370 rubles. (250 gr), and ending with the prestigious restaurant "Smelt" on the Hare Island overlooking the Neva, where 100 gr of fried fish will cost 500-600 rubles. It is also sold in markets and chain stores raw - from 200 to 800 rubles per kilogram, depending on the size of the fish and the seller's greed.

Fragrant crumpets In the heat of the heat you can taste in the restaurants of the Pyshechnaya chain, pies that melt in your mouth - in Stoll and Pirogovy Dvorik, and delicate pancakes with various fillings - in Tea Spoon or Teremka. And all this yummy can be bought for a very reasonable price.

Just take a break and have a cup of tea or coffee with dessert in the city center it is convenient to bakeries F. Volchek, "Ideal Cup", "Sweet Tooth", "Bush", as well as a time-cafe. Tasty, calm and not as burdensome for the wallet as in "Shokoladnitsa", Coffeeshop Company or "Coffee House".

Purchase cakes and pastries it is possible to bakery F. Volchek and in the branded pastry shops "Bush", "Sever" and "Metropol" - though expensive, but breathtakingly tasty.

The best way to have a snack on the go in St. Petersburg is to buy pies and pies with various fillings; pastries are sold in stalls. Delicious pies in Gostiny Dvor cost only 23 rubles.

Simple lunch in the St. Petersburg canteen it will cost 200-250 rubles, those who lose weight fit in 150 rubles, people with a good appetite - 300 rubles. In a similar price range, in addition to traditional canteens, such chain establishments as Teremok, Canteen No. 1 and Tea Spoon operate.

Advice: immediately find out the price of a set lunch at the establishment. This is almost always much more profitable than buying different dishes separately.

Lovers fast food will not be disappointed either - in the Northern capital, as in other large cities, there are many famous establishments: Subway, Fasta Pasta, McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, Wave burgers, Pita's, etc.

Canteens

You can eat inexpensively in St. Petersburg in canteens, of which there are a lot in the city. The most popular ones "Dining room number 1", "Dining Plate"... The menu includes simple and hearty dishes of Russian and European cuisine that are suitable for the whole family. In canteens it is difficult to "eat" more than 250 rubles, the average check is 150-180 rubles per person.

On our trip to St. Petersburg in November 2017, we often ate at Canteen # 1 - perhaps this is the cheapest restaurant in the city. On the downside: the food is sometimes cold, besides, there are long queues (though they move quite quickly), there is not enough cutlery, payment is only in cash.

In general, we advise you to look for any canteens - they are always inexpensive and tasty. For example, the Tekhnologichesky Institut metro station has a couple of good establishments.
